SUMMARY
Catherine Ferrand, a maid in the Mallet household, must endure her employer’s animosity and the hypocritical persecution of the villagers. Although secretly in love with Mallet’s tubercular son, she decides to run away. In the city, she falls into the clutches of a notorious pimp. After numerous adventures and saved from shame and dishonor, Catherine is reunited with her young lover. |
