SUMMARY
Three sketches: Just Jaeckin’s Mermaid Island: A solo yachstman is shipwrecked on an island. He organizes his life as he awaits rescue. A dream creature appears mysteriously and takes him on a strange adventure. Shuji Terayama’s The Grass Labyrinth: Haunted by the memory of his dead mother, Akira tries to remember the words of a nursery rhyme that evokes happiness for him. Genuine memories and nightmares mingle in a rite of passage. Walérian Borowzyk’s The Wardrobe (from a story by Maupassant): “What to do? I walked up and down, trying to spend two hours, and for the first time discovered that there is nowhere to go for entertainment in Paris at night. Finally, I decided to go to the Folies-Bergères, that amusing girl market…” Beguiled by a young dancer, the man spends the night with her and leaves at dawn more nostalgic than ever. |
