SUMMARY
Jean de Charvin, a cynical, ambitious journalist, marries Isabelle Lindstrom, a rich ship owner's daughter. Her father disavows this marriage but later restores her to his will. Charvin discovers this and, knowing his father in-law has a weak heart, frightens him to death. Angèle Ribot, the nurse, a witness to the crime, becomes his mistress. Seriously injured in a car accident, Isabelle refuses to give herself to him; he tries to kill her to take advantage of her fortune. Isabelle overhears a stormy discussion between Angèle and Jean and understands everything. She forgives her husband but he turns himself in to the police. |
