SUMMARY
During the Occupation, shortly before D-Day, an itinerant theatre company performs from town to town in Normandy. Martin, the lead actor, who wears a German uniform for his part, is captured by the allied forces. His passion and talent for the theatre is so great that the Americans assign him a mission to assassinate Hitler... Constantly changing costumes, he shuttles between Gestapo headquarters and Resistance hideouts, getting himself out of every situation with panache. He is hailed as a national hero. But on his own, he is rejected by the Comédie Française, which dismisses him as a second rate actor.
